How to get rid of silverfish
Silverfish need humidity to survive. Lower the moisture in bathrooms and basements, set sticky traps, dust voids with diatomaceous earth, and they crash hard. Most homes clear them in 2–4 weeks.

- ✓The single biggest lever. Drop bathroom or basement humidity below 50% and silverfish can't reproduce.
Materials
- +Place in dark, damp spots — under sinks, bathroom corners, behind toilets.
- +Dust along baseboards, in wall voids, under bathroom cabinets. Mechanically dehydrates them.
- +Drop into closets, drawers, bookshelves to dry out hiding spots.
- +Stronger than DE for persistent activity. Same placement — voids and cracks.

Find the moisture source
Silverfish live where humidity stays above 75%. Check under sinks for slow leaks, around tubs for sealant failure, basement walls for seepage.

Run a dehumidifier
Put one in the bathroom or basement and target 40–50% relative humidity. This alone clears mild infestations in 3–4 weeks.

Set sticky traps in dark corners
Place 4–6 traps in bathroom corners, under sinks, in basement nooks, behind books. Check weekly to track progress.

Dust DE into voids
Puff a thin layer along baseboards, into wall cracks via outlet plates, under bathroom vanities, behind the toilet.

Purge cardboard and paper hoards
Silverfish eat starch — old books, cardboard boxes, wallpaper paste, stored paper. Move basement/attic storage to plastic bins.
